Configure search engine optimization and social sharing across your store
Next Commerce provides SEO controls at three levels: store-wide defaults, per-page settings, and per-product / per-blog settings. Together these determine how your storefront appears in search engine results and social media previews.
Store-Wide SEO Settings
Navigate to Settings > General and scroll to the SEO & Social Settings section. These settings control the homepage and default search appearance for your store:
- Meta title — the title shown in search results and browser tabs for your homepage
- Meta description — the description snippet shown in search engine results
- Social Preview Image — the image used when your homepage URL is shared on social media (recommended size: 1200 x 630 pixels)
If your store supports multiple languages, language tabs (e.g. EN, DE) appear on the SEO fields so you can set localized meta content for each language.
Page-Level SEO
Every custom Page has its own SEO section in the page editor with fields for:
- Meta title — overrides the page title in search results
- Meta description — the search snippet for this specific page
The page's Slug (set in the Detail panel) determines the URL path, which is also a factor in search ranking. Choose clear, descriptive slugs that reflect the page content.
Product SEO
Each product in your Catalogue has SEO fields on the product detail view. These fields let you customize how individual product pages appear in search results, independent of the product title and description shown on the storefront.
For details on setting up product SEO, see the Products Catalogue guide.
Blog Post SEO
Each Blog post has an SEO section with per-language Meta title and Meta description fields. Combined with the post's Slug, these control how individual blog articles appear in search results.
SEO Best Practices
- Write unique meta titles and descriptions for every page, product, and blog post. Duplicate meta content across pages can hurt search ranking.
- Keep meta titles under 60 characters and meta descriptions under 160 characters to avoid truncation in search results.
- Use descriptive slugs —
/wireless-earbuds-prois better than/product-123. - Set the Social Preview Image on your store settings — pages shared on social media without a preview image appear less engaging.
- Use Redirects when changing page URLs to preserve search ranking and avoid broken links.
