Subscription Phases

Schedule future changes to a subscription's items, pricing, shipping, and billing interval using phases

Subscription Phases

Subscription phases let store admins define distinct billing periods for a subscription, each with its own items, pricing, shipping method, and billing interval. Phases are scheduled on a timeline and applied automatically when their start date is reached.

Upcoming Phases

The Upcoming Phases card on the Subscription Detail view shows all configured phases in chronological order. Each phase displays its date range (e.g. April 10, 2026 to May 8, 2026, or May 8, 2026 to Forever for an open-ended phase).

Click Add Phase to configure a new phase.

Configuring a Phase

Each phase is configured with the following options:

Subscription Items

Define which products are included in this phase and at what price. From the items table:

  • Add Products — add new products to this phase
  • Edit Price — override the per-item price for this phase
  • Edit Quantity — change the item quantity for this phase
  • Remove Items — remove a product from this phase

A Subscription Summary panel shows a live preview of the phase subtotal, shipping, and total as you make changes.

Shipping

Set the Shipping Method and Shipping Price that will apply to renewal orders generated within this phase.

Recurring Interval Schedule

Set the billing Interval (Day, Week, or Month) and Interval Count for renewals within this phase (e.g. Interval: Day, Count: 30 = every 30 days).

Phase Duration

Set the date range for the phase using the Phase Duration fields — a start date and either an end date or Forever for an open-ended phase.

If a phase is set to End at a specific date, the subscription will be automatically canceled when that phase completes. The Subscription Detail view will display a Cancels on... badge to indicate this. To keep the subscription active beyond a phase's end date, add a trailing phase starting from that date.

Reason

An optional free-text field to note why this phase was created (e.g. a partial refund adjustment or promotional rate).

Click Save Phase to add the phase to the subscription's upcoming timeline.
